Soap trailer- Outline

After getting together in a meeting with my group for the Audiovisual Media part of the coursework we were able to decide a basic outline for the soap trailer that we would all be working towards. We decided we would all plan for the development of the soap trailers individually (storyboard, script, shot list) and then have another meeting as a group to share our own ideas. We would then be able to take the best elements from all our work to create a final plan for the soap trailer.

The research clearly showed that there was not a soap currently in production that would appeal solely to young people. There are soaps that appeal to the majority of teens and adults, but nothing in particular that has the target audience of young people. The elements and story lines particularly identified from research would be like Hollyoaks and the Waterloo Road series.
The outline of our soap would follow that it would be set within a school and be focused on daily life and troubles that school leavers face- such as exam stress, relationships, birthdays, deaths, drugs etc. The outline of the soap trailer would be that it is advertising the soap from the beginning rather than a particular storyline or episode. The trailer will clearly introduce the individual characters and identify them to the viewer.
We plan to have 6 main characters that the soap will follow the lives of- 3 male and 3 female. Each of these will have different relationships to the other characters which will be explored within the soap. The trailer will introduce these characters walking through a hallway at the school they attend. From the trailer we will see who is the stereotypically popular group, sporty group etc. and they ways the characters interact with each other.
Characters: There will be six main characters that the soap will be following. 3 female and 3 male. These will include the highlighted stereotypical groups of young people- sporty, popular and the ones that like to focus on their work. There will also be a teacher featured in the trailer which would be the main teacher shown to be involved in the soap.
Location: At a busy secondary school. The trailer will show shots of the characters walking down a corridor as if they are walking to the next lesson of the day. It will show them leave the classrooms in their groups of friends and who they bump into in the corridor.
