Trailer- Audience feedback
Focus group
After completing the first draft of our trailer needed to get some audience feedback. I decided to get the audience responses by conducting a focus group. I got together a group of males and females aged between 12-19. I wanted to know what worked well and what could be improved in further edits of the trailer.
What do you think works well in the trailer?
- I like how the music slows down at the end of the trailer, as the close ups of the faces fade in and out. This creates tension and makes you take notice of what is going on.
- The short shots of each of the characters fading in and out at the end really create a feeling of mystery. They show well what the characters feelings are towards what has just been shown in the trailer. It rounds the trailer off well.
- I like that you show a range of different characters. It is very realistic and appears to show some of the real events that happen in a school. You can clearly tell which stereotype each of the characters fall in to.
- I like that the last character isn't shown much at all. You can't even tell his name from the trailer. It is clear he has some sort of connection with Jessie, but as he has no speech you don't know what or how. It is very mysterious and makes me want to watch it to find out where he fits in and what he has to do with the group, Jessie in particular.
What doesn't work well/ what do you think could be improved?
- The music is very fast paced, it gives off a happy vibe. However what is being shown on the screen doesn't seem a very happy, cheerful group of events, it confuses what is going on.
- The music doesn't really appeal to me. It doesn't seem very modern and wouldn't really make me want to take time out to sit and watch the trailer. I would prefer some more modern music track to accompany the trailer.
- The trailer ends quite suddenly, the music and what is being shown end at the same time. Maybe the music could fade out to make it more subtle.
- The music is very overpowering and fast. It takes away the attention from the action going on in the trailer and the dialogue between the characters.
- In some of the shots you can still hear the background noise, this makes it hard to hear the characters voices over the top of it. I think it could be edited further to ensure that you can hear all of what the characters are saying as it is important to piece the storylines together.

Use of copyright/royalty free music
After being told we could only use copyright and royalty free music we uesd the internet to research. We found several websites that hold a range of royalty free music for projects like us to use.
Jamendo- 'Making Me Nervous- Brad Sucks'
The vocals in this track connote the themes in the song. The track could be placed purposely at certain parts of the action, for instance were Jessie or Elizabeth are being show, as they are characters who potentially have something to be nervous about. The track doesn't have a very long instumental introduction so mixing between the non digetic sound of the music and the dialogue will be important and need to be balanced if this track is used.
Jamendo- 'Mind Healer- Fresh Body Shop'
This track is very fast paced. It would move the action along well. However, it connotes a cheerful atmosphere which is not what the trailer is about. We want it to connote an air of mystery and get the viewers asking questions in their minds, and therefore feeling that they need to watch the soap.
Jamendo- '7 Shades- John Russell Band'
This track has a long, fast paced introduction which would go well with the action that is being portrayed in the trailer. The long intro would mean majority of the dialogue will have been before the vocals in the tract start. It is quite dramatic which would go well with the themes. However it may be too fast paced and over powering over the dialogue.

Trailer- Audience feedback

I used social media websites Twitter and Facebook to gain audience feedback about the first drafts of the trailer.

From this comment we are considering altering the audio levels to have more emphasis on the teachers voice. We could also extend the length of time the teacher is shown on the screen in the first shot.
We are going to cut the length of Jessie and Sarah walking out of shot, this ensures the viewers attention is kept on the screen, continuing with conventions of trailers- which short and snappy shots.
After several comments on the music we are considering changing the audio we use to ensure that the narrative of the trailer is shown, ensuring the audiences attention is no longer on the music track behind it.

Hatton Park logo development
For each of our products we needed a logo/school badge to make Hatton Park seem more real. We came up with a simple school badge idea from which I took and designed possible logos. The logo would be used on the audiovisual media, to be shown at the end of the trailer, along with the date, time and channel. It will also be used on my ancillary tasks. There will be a small logo on the magazine cover, to introduce the new soap. It will be the main focus of my poster, being in the centre of the square, and right through the route of the eye.
